IBM Sterling Order Management Developer

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This role puts you right in the middle of heavy enterprise logistics, building out and fine-tuning order fulfillment pipelines using IBM Sterling OMS. If you enjoy untangling complex supply chain logic and keeping mission-critical e-commerce operations running without a hitch, this is a solid technical gig.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will involve designing and writing custom Sterling extensions, configuring complex order pipelines, and making sure inventory management talks smoothly to external ERP, WMS, and payment systems. You will spend a good chunk of your time troubleshooting production bottlenecks, dealing with scheduling and sourcing rules, and optimizing agent servers so orders flow through the system seamlessly from checkout to delivery.

The Core Tech Stack

You need deep, battle-tested experience with IBM Sterling OMS, particularly around APIs, Services, Agents, and User Exits. Because Sterling doesn't live in a vacuum, you'll also rely heavily on core Java, XML, XSLT, and REST/SOAP web services to build the integrations that tie the entire enterprise architecture together.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test your deep understanding of the Sterling data model and transaction lifecycle, likely asking you to walk through how you would architect an order cancellation and refund flow that touches both a legacy ERP and a third-party payment gateway. They aren't just looking for syntax knowledge; they want to see how you troubleshoot deadlocks, handle asynchronous agent processing, and prevent inventory overselling during massive traffic spikes.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume doesn't just list Java and XML, but explicitly highlights specific Sterling OMS modules, agent configurations, and enterprise integrations you've built or upgraded in past roles. Drop exact keywords from the job description like 'order orchestration,' 'Sterling APIs,' and 'performance optimization' directly into your project bullets so you easily clear the initial ATS screening.
