Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty backend and API engineering gig with a massive financial institution, routed through Genesis10. You'll be working on their Open Banking Channel team, building out systems that handle user-consented data sharing for millions of customers. Expect a hybrid setup where you'll need to show up to the Charlotte office at least three days a week.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will revolve around designing, building, and scaling API services and UI components that talk to various third-party FinTech products. You aren't just writing isolated features; you're coordinating inbound and outbound data sharing while making sure the architecture aligns with overarching business strategies. You'll also be the bridge between pure dev teams and infrastructure, troubleshooting end-to-end transaction flows to ensure the whole channel doesn't crash when traffic spikes.
The Core Tech Stack
You need to be a true SME when it comes to API development, RESTful patterns, and SOAP/REST web services. Security and access control are huge here, meaning a deep, practical grasp of the OAuth 2 authorization framework and API gateway technologies is non-negotiable. Because you're in the financial sector, knowing standards like Open Financial Exchange (OFX), Durable Data API (DDA), or Financial Data Exchange (FDX) will give you a massive head start. Don't forget observability—you'll be living in Splunk and AppDynamics to monitor system health and capacity.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to grill you on API security, likely asking you to walk through a scenario where an OAuth 2 token exchange or token revocation fails under high concurrency and how you'd debug it using your monitoring stack. They'll also probe your experience with FinTech data standards, so be ready to explain how you've mapped legacy financial data structures to modern RESTful JSON endpoints. They are secretly looking for someone who can balance rapid feature delivery with bulletproof financial compliance and fault tolerance.
Application Advice
To make it past the ATS, you need to pepper your resume with exact keyword matches from the job description like OAuth 2, RESTful APIs, gateway technologies, Splunk, and FinTech integrations. Don't just list them in a skills section; weave them into your work history by highlighting specific projects where you designed high-throughput APIs or managed complex vendor integrations in a regulated industry.
