Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-hitting leadership role sitting right at the intersection of IT, finance, and executive strategy. You'll essentially act as the operational backbone for the CIO, making sure engineering and IT delivery align cleanly with corporate budgets, public company compliance, and board-level expectations.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will be a mix of portfolio management, financial wrangling, and executive diplomacy. You'll own the entire IT operating cadence—building out performance dashboards, prepping board-ready materials, and steering a $25M+ project portfolio to ensure initiatives actually hit their scope, time, and budget targets. Expect to spend significant time coordinating with Corporate Finance on forecasting and accruals, negotiating vendor contracts, and wrangling SOX compliance evidence with the security team without slowing down delivery.

The Core Tech Stack

While you won't be slinging code, you need deep fluency in Technology Business Management (TBM) frameworks, IT chargeback models, and enterprise financial planning tools. Mastery of large-scale PMO portfolio management tools and advanced financial modeling in Excel are absolute table stakes. The company needs someone who can speak fluent engineering to the CTO and fluent balance-sheet metrics to the CFO.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring panel to test your operational pragmatism with scenarios around failing projects and blown budgets. They will likely ask you to explain how you handle a critical strategic initiative that is 30% over budget and behind schedule while maintaining visibility for public company stakeholders. They are secretly looking for your ability to deliver bad news early, restructure dependencies without pointing fingers, and regain the trust of skeptical finance leaders.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS for this role, you need to pepper your resume with hard metrics around budget sizes and governance frameworks. Explicitly highlight your experience managing $25M+ portfolios, public company SOX compliance, and IT financial planning. Frame your bullet points around operational transformation—showcase how you've previously turned chaotic IT delivery into a predictable, measurable engine that business leaders could actually trust.
