SAP EAM Functional Consultant

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty, hands-on SAP EAM gig based out of downtown Houston that demands a veteran who actually knows how to configure the system rather than just talk about it in meetings. If you are looking for a remote setup, keep moving, because leadership requires you in the office from day one to untangle complex plant maintenance and asset management challenges.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to dive headfirst into the weeds of asset management, functional locations, and end-to-end maintenance workflows. Your day-to-day will span running workshops with business stakeholders, mapping out fit-gap analyses, and getting your hands dirty writing functional specs and handling actual SAP configurations. You will act as the bridge between raw plant operations and the software, ensuring that preventive maintenance schedules, spare parts integrations, and project systems are tightly bound together without breaking production.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here is SAP EAM and PM, but you won't survive long without a solid grip on Service Management (SM) and Project Systems (PS). The team needs someone who natively understands how maintenance orders talk to Materials Management (MM) and Financials (FI). If you haven't lived through at least a couple of full-cycle implementations—handling everything from data migration cutovers to hypercare support—you are going to feel the heat.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to skip the high-level theory and test your battle scars immediately. They will likely ask you to walk through a complex scenario where a preventive maintenance order fails to trigger due to an integration mismatch with MM or PS, wanting to hear your exact troubleshooting steps. They are secretly testing whether you are a real configurer or just a slide-deck architect who delegates the actual work to others.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to scream 'hands-on configurer' rather than 'project manager'. Explicitly list your end-to-end implementation cycles, greenfield/brownfield experience, and highlight exact keywords like Functional Locations, Preventive Maintenance, Fit/Gap Analysis, and Cutover Planning. Make sure to explicitly state your willingness and ability to report to downtown Houston from Day 1 to get past the initial recruiter filter.
