OpCon Workload Automation Administrator / Batch Operations Specialist

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty infrastructure and automation gig focused entirely on keeping mission-critical batch operations running smoothly using OpCon. If you enjoy untangling complex job dependencies, optimizing heavy workloads, and digging into logs when things break at 2 AM, this role will keep you deeply engaged.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend your days managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting over 200 production batch jobs, setting up calendars, and ensuring complex workflows execute without a hitch. Much of your time goes into coordinating with cross-functional app and DB teams, performing root cause analysis on failed jobs, writing Unix shell scripts, and handling incidents through Azure DevOps while keeping stakeholders updated on daily statuses.

The Core Tech Stack

You need absolute fluency in SMA OpCon Workload Automation, plus strong Unix/Linux shell scripting (Bash/KSH) to build automation wrappers. Solid SQL skills and experience wrangling PostgreSQL RDS on AWS are non-negotiable since you'll be constantly validating data and tuning batch performance. Experience with Splunk for monitoring dashboards and SFTP file tracking will also make your life significantly easier here.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to present a scenario where a critical multi-step batch dependency chain fails midway through execution due to a database timeout. They want to hear your methodical approach to reviewing exit codes, checking Splunk logs, coordinating with database teams, and executing a safe recovery. You'll also likely be quizzed on your practical experience managing OpCon environment migrations and handling version control across dev, test, and production.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume leans heavily into hard numbers—mention the scale of the batch environments you've managed, the size of the job schedules, and your specific experience with OpCon administration and upgrades. Mirror the exact keywords from the job description like 'job dependencies', 'PostgreSQL RDS', 'Unix/Linux shell scripting', and 'Azure DevOps' to ensure you easily sail through the automated ATS filters.
