Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on, execution-heavy consulting role inside Salesforce Marketing Cloud where you will be knee-deep in complex data extensions and dynamic templates. If you know your way around SFMC and are tired of high-level strategy meetings where you never actually write code, this 9 to 12-month contract lets you just build, test, and ship high-volume email campaigns.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days building, configuring, and deploying large-scale email campaigns inside SFMC. Expect to write complex SQL queries for audience segmentation, spin up intricate workflows in Automation Studio, and leverage AMPscript to render personalized content on the fly. You'll also troubleshoot pesky rendering bugs across various email clients and manage cross-device testing using Litmus and Validity/Everest to protect sender reputation.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute fluency in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, specifically Email Studio, Journey Builder, and Automation Studio. On top of that, your AMPscripting and SQL must be bulletproof since you'll be manipulating subscriber data and injecting dynamic logic daily. Clean, responsive HTML/CSS is non-negotiable because you'll be fixing broken layouts across legacy email clients before they hit production.
Interview Expectations
The hiring team will likely ask you to explain how you handle query timeouts in Automation Studio when pulling data from massive Data Extensions, so be ready to discuss query optimization and indexing strategies. They'll also test your AMPscript knowledge by asking how you handle error trapping or fallback values when a subscriber's profile data is completely missing, ensuring the email still renders cleanly without looking broken.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume screams 'Salesforce Marketing Cloud Developer' right at the top, explicitly featuring keywords like Automation Studio, Journey Builder, Data Extensions, AMPscript, and SQL. If you have direct experience with Litmus and Validity/Everest for deliverability tracking, put those front and center because they want someone who can hit the ground running with inbox placement and cross-client testing.
