Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting ServiceNow role based in Tysons Corner where you won't just be pushing out basic catalog items, but architecting serious enterprise workflows and integrations. If you are tired of cleanup work and want to build robust custom applications on the Now platform from scratch, this position gives you the technical latitude to actually engineer solutions.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days knee-deep in custom application scoping, building out complex REST integrations, and wrestling with tricky server-side scripts. You will be acting as the technical bridge between business stakeholders and the platform, translating vague requirements into concrete user stories and bulletproof scoped apps. A good chunk of your time will go toward optimizing performance, ensuring upgrade safety, and making sure your update sets don't break downstream environments.
The Core Tech Stack
Your bread and butter here needs to be rock-solid server-side scripting using GlideRecord and Script Includes, paired with clean client-side logic. You can't fake your way through this without deep experience in Flow Designer and custom Service Portal widget development. Because they specifically call out REST integrations along with certificate and keystore configurations like BCFKS and mTLS, you need to know how ServiceNow securely talks to the outside world without dropping packets or failing security audits.
Interview Expectations
When you get on the technical call, be ready for a deep dive into how you handle large transaction scopes without tanking platform performance, likely involving questions on best practices for Script Includes versus Business Rules. They will also grill you on your integration strategy—expect a scenario where an external API drops connection or sends malformed payloads, and the interviewer will want to hear how you manage mutual TLS handshakes and keystore configurations under pressure. They are looking to see if you actually understand the underlying architecture or if you just rely on out-of-the-box wizards.
Application Advice
Skip the generic IT generalist resume and zero in on your engineering chops within the Now ecosystem. Make sure terms like Scoped App Development, Flow Designer, mTLS, and Script Includes are explicitly visible near the top of your experience section so you instantly clear their ATS filters. Highlight specific instances where you rescued a bloated instance or designed a complex third-party integration from scratch, as that is the exact pain point this team is trying to solve.
