Employee Relations Consultant

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty Employee Relations Consultant role meant for an HR pro who isn't afraid to have tough conversations and guide leadership through sticky workplace issues. Working remotely from the MST or CST time zone, you will be the go-to expert for managing complex investigations, performance management, and mitigating organizational risk without breaking a sweat.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect your day-to-day to be a mix of high-stakes problem-solving, coaching defensive managers, and conducting airtight workplace investigations. You will juggle sensitive matters ranging from harassment allegations to involuntary terminations, partnering closely with legal counsel and HR Business Partners to ensure every step is compliant and documented. It requires a thick skin, immense discretion, and the ability to balance empathy for the employee with the hard reality of business needs.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a rock-solid foundation in federal, state, and local employment laws, alongside heavy experience in case management technology and Microsoft Office. Because you'll be dealing with multi-state jurisdictions and complex organizational dynamics, your toolkit must include exceptional conflict resolution methodologies, deep knowledge of performance corrective action workflows, and formal HR credentials like PHR or SHRM-CP to back up your tactical recommendations.

Interview Expectations

The hiring team will likely grill you on a scenario where a high-performing revenue generator is accused of subtle workplace harassment. They want to see if you protect the business at all costs or follow objective investigative processes. Another common hurdle involves pushing back against a director who wants to fire an employee immediately without a paper trail; the interviewer is testing your consultation skills and your ability to coach leadership safely.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS, make sure your resume explicitly features keywords like workplace investigations, corrective action, risk mitigation, and employment law compliance. Don't just list your past jobs; highlight the scale and complexity of the employee relations cases you've handled, making it clear that you operate with high autonomy and bulletproof documentation habits.
