What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend a good chunk of your day writing, maintaining, and executing automated and manual test scripts for high-stakes REST and SOAP APIs. You'll be validating payloads, scrutinizing HTTP status codes, and digging into database transformations using SQL and Toad to ensure data integrity across multiple interconnected enterprise services. You'll also work closely with software engineers during Agile sprints to triage defects, analyze test failures, and integrate your test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
The Core Tech Stack
You'll need sharp SQL skills for backend validation, paired with hands-on experience using testing tools like SoapUI, Bruno, and Eclipse. Having familiarity with Java or Python will seriously speed up your daily automation tasks, while tools like Jenkins, Git, and various relational databases will round out your interactions with the broader engineering team.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to hand you a scenario where an API payload returns a 200 OK status, but downstream database records are completely corrupted or missing; they'll want to hear your exact root-cause analysis steps.
