EDI Integration Engineer

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty integration role focused squarely on building and maintaining healthcare EDI data pipelines using Edifecs and modern Azure cloud components. You will be knee-deep in healthcare transaction sets, making sure claims and enrollments flow smoothly between systems without dropping packets or breaking compliance. If you enjoy untangling complex data formats and dealing with the quirks of healthcare payers, this one will keep you thoroughly engaged.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll spend your days designing, developing, and troubleshooting robust EDI integrations, mostly leaning on Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and Integration Accounts. Your main responsibility is handling EDI mapping, transformations, and rigorous validations while configuring trading partner agreements and setting up secure communication channels like AS2, SFTP, and HTTPS. You will also coordinate closely with QA and infrastructure teams when workflows stall or performance dips.

The Core Tech Stack

You need to be completely fluent in Edifecs and Java (especially Spring Boot and REST API development) because that forms the backbone of the custom processing logic. On top of that, a deep operational understanding of Azure serverless components like Azure Functions and Logic Apps is non-negotiable. Finally, you must know your way around healthcare payor workflows—specifically HIPAA EDI transactions like 278, 834, 837, 270, and 271 for claims processing, enrollment eligibility, and payment remittances.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test your practical knowledge of handling edge cases in EDI file transformations and error handling within Azure serverless architectures. They'll likely ask you to walk through how you would debug a failed 837 transaction batch in a high-throughput environment, so be ready to discuss concrete logging and monitoring strategies using Azure tools. They are secretly looking to see if you actually understand the underlying healthcare business rules or if you just know how to push buttons in a mapping tool.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly highlights your hands-on experience with Edifecs and specific HIPAA transaction sets rather than just listing generic EDI buzzwords. Explicitly mention your work with Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Java Spring Boot integration pipelines, making sure to quantify the scale of the claims processing systems you've worked on in the past.
