Mainframe Developer

Sensiple Inc

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty legacy modernization gig where you aren't just maintaining old code, but actively helping migrate large-scale mainframe systems to distributed architectures. If you know your way around traditional enterprise backends and have an interest in generative AI migration tools, this is an interesting intersection of old-school tech and modern tooling.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days knee-deep in COBOL, CICS, and complex database structures, figuring out how to untangle decades-old business logic. You will map out workflows, convert requirements into robust database designs, and coordinate everything from unit testing to production deployment. The real challenge here is bridging the gap between legacy systems and modern distributed environments without breaking mission-critical business processes.

The Core Tech Stack

You need deep, production-level fluency in COBOL and CICS, alongside heavy database experience with DB2, IMS, VSAM, and/or IDMS. Because this project involves moving off the mainframe, experience with application migration or familiarity with generative and agentic AI migration tools will make or break your ability to stand out. They are looking for someone who can step in, read un-commented legacy code, and architect its modern equivalent.

Interview Expectations

Expect the technical panel to drill down into your database optimization strategies, especially how you handle performance tuning when migrating legacy data structures to distributed systems. They will likely ask you to walk through a complex CICS transaction failure you debugged in the past, listening closely to your systematic approach to troubleshooting. The hiring manager wants to see that you can independently own the technical lifecycle from design to testing without hand-holding.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume doesn't just list legacy buzzwords, but specifically highlights your experience with large-scale application migrations and distributed environments. Drop explicit keywords like COBOL, CICS, DB2, IMS, VSAM, and AI-driven migration tools into your bullet points to get past the initial ATS screening, and shoot your resume directly over to Elangovan with your expected hourly rate.
