Job Description & Details
This is a solid, hands-on infrastructure role where you'll be the backbone of keeping critical hybrid environments running smoothly. If you enjoy wrangling VMware, securing backups, and making sure disaster recovery actually works when things go sideways, this gig gives you plenty of ownership.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will revolve around managing and optimizing a mixed bag of on-prem infrastructure and cloud resources. You'll spend a good chunk of time designing, monitoring, and troubleshooting Veeam backups, making sure RPOs and RTOs are locked down tightly, and executing DR tests. When you aren't fighting fires in VMware vCenter or configuring Azure resources, you'll be writing PowerShell scripts to automate the tedious tasks and keeping an eye on enterprise storage arrays.
The Core Tech Stack
To survive here, you need deep, production-level scars in Veeam Backup & Replication and VMware vSphere/vCenter. This isn't a setup where you just click buttons; you need a real grasp of immutability, snapshots, and hybrid backup architectures. Alongside that, solid Microsoft Azure administration skills—covering storage, access control, and cost governance—are non-negotiable. Add in some Windows Server knowledge, enterprise storage familiarity like NetApp or Tintri, and practical PowerShell fluency, and you'll fit right into their stack.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to throw a disaster recovery scenario at you, asking how you'd architect an immutable backup strategy against ransomware and walk through a fast recovery timeline; they want to see if you actually understand RPO and RTO trade-offs, not just buzzwords. You'll also likely get grilled on a complex troubleshooting scenario involving vSphere performance bottlenecks or a failed Veeam replication job where they are testing your methodical debugging process under pressure.
Application Advice
Skip the generic IT resume fluff and make sure your experience with hybrid environments is front and center. Explicitly highlight your hands-on numbers—like the size of the VMware clusters you've managed or the terabytes backed up via Veeam. Weave in exact keywords like 'Veeam Backup & Replication', 'Azure AZ-104', 'PowerShell automation', and 'Disaster Recovery' naturally into your bullet points so you easily clear the ATS filters.
