Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty estimating role rooted firmly onsite in Georgetown, KY, requiring you to hit the ground running with industrial and commercial construction projects. You'll be bridging the gap between conceptual scopes and hard-dollar bids, managing up to 25% overtime and occasional travel across North America. If you enjoy turning high-level engineering concepts into concrete budgetary numbers, this 12-month gig will keep your analytical skills sharp.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around dissecting construction drawings, analyzing contractor bids to spot hidden scope gaps, and building historical cost data from past projects. You'll regularly draft conceptual estimates from sparse initial documentation and translate detailed drawing packages into solid bid proposals using the CSI Master Format. Expect to collaborate closely with field teams and management to ensure your estimates match the operational reality on the ground.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a strong foundation in reading architectural and engineering plans combined with fluency in takeoff and estimating tools like ProEst, Planswift, Bluebeam, or RSMeans. A solid working knowledge of AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office suite—particularly advanced Excel for cost modeling—is non-negotiable. Knowing how to navigate CSI Master Format and applying it to Class 5 through Class 2 estimates will be your bread and butter here.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to hand you a set of conceptual specs with minimal drawings and ask you to walk them through your mental model for generating a Class 5 estimate. They want to see your risk-assessment methodology and how you account for unknowns when the documentation is thin. You'll also likely be grilled on a scenario where a contractor's bid has a glaring scope gap, testing your ability to audit subcontractor proposals without missing critical details.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume clearly highlights your experience managing projects over $10M and explicitly mentions your familiarity with Class 2 through Class 5 estimate types. Front-load your technical proficiencies in Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and industry-standard estimating software so the ATS picks them up immediately. Emphasize your background in industrial or commercial renovations, and make it obvious that you're within the 100-mile radius of Georgetown to secure priority local status.
