Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting AWS Cloud Architect role based in Plano, TX, meant for someone who has genuinely lived and breathed cloud infrastructure for a decade. You won't just be drawing diagrams in Visio; you'll be actively shaping how engineering teams build, deploy, and scale enterprise applications using modern IaC tools. If you enjoy owning the full infrastructure lifecycle and driving technical roadmaps without getting bogged down by endless meetings, this is worth a look.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days designing resilient cloud-native architectures that align strictly with the AWS Well-Architected Framework. Expect to write and review a lot of Terraform or OpenTofu code, provisioning complex environments while keeping stateful and stateless application designs clean. You will also be the bridge between engineering and operations, setting up CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins and GitHub Actions, automating infrastructure orchestration, and ensuring everything is secure and compliant right out of the box.
The Core Tech Stack
You need deep, battle-tested expertise in AWS infrastructure services, paired with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or OpenTofu. Being able to spin up environments is table stakes; you also need a strong grasp of capacity planning, monitoring strategies, and automated lifecycle management. Familiarity with CI/CD tooling like Jenkins and GitHub Actions is non-negotiable since you'll be automating the path from code commit to production. Finally, holding the AWS Certified Solutions Architect credential is a hard requirement here.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on trade-offs between stateful and stateless application designs in cloud environments, likely asking you to walk through a disaster recovery scenario you've previously built. They want to see how you handle failure states, data persistence, and auto-scaling bottlenecks. Another major topic will be your Terraform workflow—they'll want to know how you manage state files, handle module reusability, and enforce security compliance across large teams without slowing down deployments.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume doesn't just list tools, but clearly highlights large-scale AWS migrations and architecture overhauls you've led from scratch. Explicitly feature keywords like AWS Well-Architected Framework, Terraform, OpenTofu, state management, and CI/CD automation to clear the initial ATS filters. If you have experience designing internal developer platforms or self-service provisioning tools, bring that front and center, as it directly targets the automation goals this team cares about.
