Azure Government (GCC High) Cloud Engineer

Job Description & Details

This is a highly specialized 12-month contract focused entirely on orchestrating a complex tenant migration and infrastructure modernization for an ITAR-regulated PLM platform inside Azure Government. You'll be dealing with the unique quirks of GCC High endpoints, handling subscription transfers, and future-proofing data pipelines ahead of the Azure SQL Data Sync retirement. It is heavy-duty cloud plumbing designed for someone who knows how to navigate compliance boundaries without breaking production for 850 active users.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around executing the migration runbook across Dev, Test, and Production environments while keeping strict ITAR and NIST SP 800-171 controls intact. You will spend a lot of time collaborating with identity, security, and vendor teams to cut over authentication from legacy Active Directory to the target enterprise domain, re-establishing secure VPN/ExpressRoute paths, and re-architecting data replication streams feeding into Power BI.

The Core Tech Stack
You need deep, battle-tested expertise in Azure Government (GCC High) and its specific service limitations, paired with rock-solid Windows Server and IIS administration for .NET applications. Beyond standard cloud infrastructure like VNets, Private Link, and NSGs, your secret weapon here will be knowing your way around SQL Server transactional replication, Azure Data Factory, and PowerShell automation because you'll be replacing deprecated SQL Data Sync pipelines while maintaining zero data loss.

Interview Expectations

The hiring team is going to test your real-world scars regarding cross-tenant migrations and compliance. Expect a scenario-based question where they ask you to walk through a zero-downtime subscription ownership transfer in GCC High while maintaining strict ITAR data boundaries and dealing with a broken LDAP trust relationship. They want to see your risk-first thinking, how you handle rollback plans, and whether you actually understand the underlying REST endpoints and DNS routing in the US Gov cloud.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, your resume needs to explicitly mirror the compliance and architecture requirements of this role. Drop acronyms like GCC High, ITAR, NIST SP 800-171, and Azure SQL Data Sync right into your summary and recent experience bullets rather than hiding them. Make sure you highlight any past M&A, tenant-to-tenant migration, or divestiture projects where you successfully wrangled hybrid connectivity and complex Active Directory cutovers.
