Technical Project Manager - CMDB

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on technical project management role focused entirely on wrangling asset inventories and building out a centralized CMDB strategy. If you enjoy untangling messy production environments and getting cross-functional stakeholders to actually commit to delivery milestones, this is a solid gig.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your primary mission is to audit existing asset inventories across key production products, figure out what's missing, and design a standardized, centralized CMDB solution. You'll spend a lot of time defining technical requirements, drafting implementation roadmaps, and dealing with the political friction of getting different teams to adopt the new standard. Success here means moving the needle from fragmented legacy tracking to a unified, reliable source of truth for all production assets.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a deep background in Configuration Management Databases (CMDB) and IT Asset Management (ITAM) principles. The team isn't looking for a pure slide-deck PM; you need to understand system architecture, data models, and how production environments actually map out. Familiarity with ITSM platforms and automated asset discovery tools will be essential to make sense of the current state and design a scalable future architecture.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to ask you to walk through a time you had to herd cats across multiple engineering teams to adopt a new operational standard. They want to see how you handle pushback from legacy teams who don't want to change their workflows. You should also be ready to explain how you would tackle discovering unmapped assets in a complex, live production environment without causing downtime.

Application Advice

Skip the generic project management buzzwords and put your CMDB and asset discovery experience front and center on your resume. Make sure to highlight specific metrics around large-scale inventory projects you've led, focusing on milestones achieved and stakeholder alignment. Since this role requires local presence in SFO, explicitly state your location at the top of your resume to clear the initial recruiter screen.
