Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty, hands-on Individual Contributor role where you will be knee-deep in infrastructure and automation rather than sitting in endless strategy meetings. If you are someone who likes writing code and managing massive compute power without the baggage of people management, this one is worth a serious look.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You will spend your days architecting, optimizing, and maintaining high-performance computing workloads and the underlying infrastructure that supports them. Expect to troubleshoot bottlenecks, build out scalable containerized environments, and automate infrastructure deployments. You'll be bridging the gap between heavy computational workloads and modern cloud-native tooling, meaning your day-to-day will constantly swing between writing solid automation scripts and tuning system performance.
The Core Tech Stack
You absolutely need to bring deep, battle-tested experience in High-Performance Computing alongside rock-solid Python scripting skills for automation and tooling. Kubernetes is non-negotiable here because everything is containerized and scaled dynamically. Pair that with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code, and you have the exact toolkit needed to keep this environment humming without manual intervention. If you are missing any of these foundational pieces, you will likely struggle with the scale of this setup.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on how you handle cluster scaling bottlenecks and resource contention under heavy computational loads. They will likely ask you to walk through a scenario where a distributed Python job failed due to memory leaks or network saturation in a Kubernetes cluster, and they are secretly looking for your methodical debugging process and familiarity with low-level system metrics. They also want to see that you actually write code day-to-day, so be prepared for a live scripting or IaC exercise.
Application Advice
Skip the generic management fluff on your resume because this is strictly an IC role—highlight your individual technical contributions front and center. Make sure keywords like HPC, Python, Kubernetes, and Terraform are heavily sprinkled into your project descriptions, ideally backed by quantifiable metrics showing how you scaled systems or optimized performance in past roles.
