IT Project Manager

Job Description & Details

This is a high-visibility, high-stakes IT Project Manager role coordinating large-scale initiatives for state agencies like EGLE and DTMB. You will be dealing with massive stakeholder groups, external vendors, and intricate system integrations where failure is very visible.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around herding cats across massive projects involving teams of 50 or more people. You'll manage complex schedules, juggle competing priorities from diverse state and vendor stakeholders, and keep strict track of scope, budget, and deliverables. Expect to spend a solid chunk of your time writing SOWs, reviewing RFPs, and ensuring external vendors actually deliver what they promised without blowing up the timeline.

The Core Tech Stack

You don't necessarily need to write code, but you do need deep fluency in Agile delivery models and enterprise software or infrastructure lifecycles. The absolute make-or-break skills here are rigorous budget and scope control, advanced vendor management, and a strong track record of steering large teams. Having a PMP certification is heavily favored and will give your resume an immediate edge.

Interview Expectations

Be ready for behavioral and scenario-based questions like, "Tell me about a time a vendor missed a critical milestone right before a hard deadline; how did you handle it?" The hiring manager is secretly looking for your ability to remain calm under executive pressure, use independent judgment, and pivot without letting scope creep destroy the budget. They also want to see how well you translate tech-speak for non-technical agency executives.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly calls out managing teams of 50+ members and handling enterprise-level budgets. Weave in exact keywords from the JD like "Statement of Work (SOW)", "vendor management", "Agile projects", and "scope and schedule control". Don't just list your tasks; highlight the scale of the projects you've successfully delivered.
