IBM Sterling OMS Developer

Stefanini Group

Job Description & Details

This is a solid, hands-on enterprise engineering role focused squarely on building out complex order management workflows using IBM Sterling OMS. If you are tired of generic web dev and want to tackle deep supply chain, inventory visibility, and fulfillment logic at scale, this gig will actually keep you engaged.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll spend your days designing, developing, and extending core modules of the IBM Sterling Order Management System platform. Expect to build out heavy integrations using REST APIs and event-driven architectures, manage process modeling for sales, returns, and drop-ship pipelines, and customize the Sterling Order Hub. You won't just write code in a silo; you'll troubleshoot data issues, optimize performance bottlenecks in background jobs, and constantly collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders who rely on your systems to keep commerce moving.

The Core Tech Stack

You need absolute mastery over IBM Sterling OMS core modules, participant modeling, and process modeling. Beyond standard Sterling capabilities like inventory management, payment processing, and agent automation, you must bring strong modern Java skills complete with solid object-oriented design patterns. Because this role touches distributed systems and modern infrastructure, having a firm grasp of containerized environments, SQL for deep troubleshooting, and event-driven design isn't optional—it's what will keep your pipeline from crashing in production.

Interview Expectations

The technical panel is going to test your architectural chops by asking you to walk through a complex custom agent implementation and how you would handle thread safety and concurrency issues in a high-volume background job. They are secretly looking to see if you actually understand the underlying database tables and transaction boundaries of Sterling, or if you're just someone who relies on out-of-the-box configurations without knowing why things break under load. Another favorite will likely revolve around designing a resilient retry mechanism for a failed third-party payment integration using event-driven patterns.

Application Advice

Skip the generic template resume and make sure your CV shouts "Sterling OMS Expert" right at the top. You need to explicitly list keywords like Process Modeling, Sourcing, Sterling Order Hub, REST APIs, and Java design patterns to easily clear the ATS filters. Highlight specific enterprise implementations where you optimized sluggish agents or built complex fulfillment workflows, as the hiring managers want proven proof that you can hit the ground running without hand-holding.
