Job Description & Details
This is a gritty integration role where you will act as both a domain expert in retirement services and a traditional Scrum Master to merge a recently acquired company's systems into the main IT ecosystem. If you understand the deep plumbing of retirement record-keeping and enjoy wrangling complex data migration projects, this is a solid contract to sink your teeth into.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll be leading an agile team through all ceremonies while untangling the operational complexities of participant record-keeping. Your day-to-day will involve guiding stakeholders and developers through data onboarding, mapping out how the acquired company's legacy systems translate into the new ecosystem, and unblocking technical dependencies across multiple business units.
The Core Tech Stack
You absolutely need heavy-hitting domain knowledge in Retirement Plan and Participant Administration Record Keeping, specifically with 401(k) and 403(b) administration. Beyond the financial mechanics, you need to understand ERISA, QDIA, hardship withdrawals, loans, and distributions like the back of your hand. Paired with this is your ability to drive Agile workflows as a Scrum Master, meaning you should be comfortable translating messy business logic into actionable sprint goals.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to throw a complex scenario at you involving compliance edge cases, such as handling a botched 403(b) data migration involving hard-to-track vesting schedules or multi-tier hardship distributions. They aren't just looking for textbook definitions; they want to see how you orchestrate cross-functional teams to resolve compliance risks without stalling a sprint. They'll also test your Scrum agility by asking how you handle stakeholder scope creep when executives suddenly demand changes to the migration timeline.
Application Advice
Skip the generic project management fluff and make sure your resume screams retirement operations and record-keeping expertise. Explicitly highlight your hands-on experience with ERISA, 401(k)/403(b) plans, and data onboarding projects, ensuring acronyms like QDIA and ERISA are clearly visible for the ATS. Tie your Agile credentials directly to financial systems integrations so they immediately see you can bridge the gap between deep financial tech and sprint execution.
