Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty, hands-on AWS DevOps contract where you'll be knee-deep in multi-account cloud architecture and data platform integrations. If you enjoy untangling complex infrastructure, shifting security left, and mentoring junior engineers rather than just pushing buttons, this 6-month gig will keep you thoroughly engaged.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days designing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code, making sure multi-account AWS environments stay secure, compliant, and scalable. A big part of the grind involves building and automating CI/CD pipelines, optimizing container deployments, and directly supporting modern data tools like Snowflake, DBT, and Airflow. Expect to spend plenty of time troubleshooting deployment bottlenecks and occasionally unblocking mid-level engineers who hit walls with Terraform or Kubernetes.
The Core Tech Stack
You absolutely cannot fake your way through the AWS ecosystem here; you need deep, production-level expertise. Terraform or CloudFormation is your daily driver for IaC, paired with solid scripting chops in Python and Bash. Because they run heavily containerized workloads, you need to be comfortable navigating Kubernetes clusters under the hood, all backed by a strong foundation in Linux/Unix administration. Familiarity with modern data stack tools like Snowflake and Airflow will make or break your success in this specific environment.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on state management and failure recovery in Terraform, specifically asking how you handle drift or complex modular architectures across multi-account AWS setups. They are secretly looking to see if you panic when pipelines fail or if you systematically isolate issues using logs and metrics. Be ready to whiteboard a complete CI/CD deployment pipeline for a containerized app and defend your architectural choices regarding security and cost.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to scream reliability and automation at scale. Do not just list tools; highlight specific metrics, such as how you reduced deployment times or automated compliance policies in past roles. Make sure keywords like Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, AWS, and Snowflake are front and center to clear the automated screening, and frame your past contract work around delivery speed and architectural stability.
