Software Engineer / AppDynamics

Job Description & Details

This is a solid, hands-on enterprise monitoring role tucked inside one of the largest financial institutions in the country. You'll be knee-deep in Splunk and AppDynamics, helping stabilize and observe complex systems that move massive amounts of capital daily. If you like tracing performance bottlenecks and building solid operational alerts rather than shipping greenfield web apps all day, this long-term gig is worth a serious look.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will operate as an individual contributor consulting on and participating in engineering deliverables that require steady operational oversight. Your day-to-day will involve analyzing application performance metrics, troubleshooting moderately complex engineering roadblocks, and setting up precise observability loops. Expect to collaborate heavily across geographically dispersed teams while untangling data patterns and ensuring compliance standards are met.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here will be AppDynamics for Application Performance Monitoring and Splunk for deep log analysis and query writing. The hiring team explicitly needs someone who knows how to write effective alerts in both platforms and can translate technical Splunk queries into actual business insights. Having some baseline automation knowledge with Ansible or Selenium, along with scripting chops, will definitely help you stand out from the pack.

Interview Expectations

Expect the interviewers to test your practical operational instincts rather than just asking textbook definitions. They will likely present a scenario where a critical microservice is throwing intermittent 500 errors under heavy load, and they'll want to hear how you would isolate the issue using AppDynamics dashboard metrics and Splunk transaction logs. The hiring manager is secretly looking for someone who stays calm under pressure, can methodically rule out network versus code issues, and knows how to write clean, performant queries without hammering the indexers.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to make it immediately obvious that you have spent real production time with both Splunk and AppDynamics. Don't just list them as bullet points; highlight specific instances where you built custom monitoring alerts, tuned thresholds to reduce alert fatigue, or wrote complex queries to diagnose elusive production bugs. Weave keywords like application performance monitoring, W2 contract delivery, and cross-team collaboration directly into your experience section to clear the automated screening filters easily.
