Job Description & Details
This is a specialized data analyst and testing role heavily rooted in the healthcare space, requiring deep familiarity with Medicaid and Medicare ecosystems. You will spend a good chunk of your time ensuring data integrity across complex pipelines, validating ETL processes, and working at the intersection of business requirements and technical execution.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You will live in the weeds of healthcare data, reviewing design docs, hunting for requirement gaps, and mapping out data flows between different interface systems. Your day-to-day involves writing complex SQL queries, designing thorough test scenarios for data validation, and acting as the bridge between business stakeholders, QA, and the dev team. When things break—whether it is a pre-go-live bug or a post-deployment data discrepancy—you are the one tracking it end-to-end to make sure ownership is assigned and resolutions happen quickly.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute fluency in advanced SQL, specifically within a Teradata environment, including performance tuning and BTEQ. Beyond writing queries, you should be comfortable building operational and analytical reports, maintaining documentation, and spinning up visualizations in tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker. Familiarity with SAS or other data mining software, alongside a solid grasp of relational database structures, will keep you from drowning in the sheer volume of claims and encounter data.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to throw a complex SQL optimization problem at you, asking how you would debug a slow-running query pulling millions of rows of Medicaid claims data in Teradata. They want to see your optimization process, not just a working query. You will also likely be asked to walk through a time you found a subtle data anomaly during testing and how you traced it back through the ETL pipeline to work with vendors and developers on a fix.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume screams healthcare domain knowledge right at the top, explicitly highlighting your years working with Medicaid or Medicare eligibility, claims, and clinical quality data. Do not bury your technical skills; put Teradata, advanced SQL writing, and test case design front and center so you easily clear the ATS filters for those exact keywords.
