Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on QA Automation Tester role focused heavily on building out and maintaining robust test suites using Selenium and Cypress. If you enjoy the grind of setting up frameworks from scratch and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines rather than just clicking buttons manually, this gig will keep you busy. You'll be dropping into Agile teams in either Houston or Brooklyn to catch bugs before they ever sniff production.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days writing, maintaining, and executing automated UI, functional, and regression test scripts using Selenium and Cypress. Expect to spend a lot of time collaborating with developers to figure out why a build broke in the CI/CD pipeline, writing reusable automation utilities, and dealing with cross-browser compatibility issues. You will also juggle API testing, validate database states using SQL, and track down stubborn defects in Jira.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute fluency in Selenium WebDriver and Cypress paired with JavaScript, TypeScript, or Java. The team relies on the Page Object Model (POM) for framework design, so you shouldn't just be recording scripts; you need to write clean, maintainable code. Experience with API testing via Postman or REST Assured, database validation with SQL, and wiring tests into CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions are non-negotiable if you want to hit the ground running.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to grill you on how you handle flaky tests in Cypress or Selenium, so be ready to explain your strategy for robust waits and assertions. They'll also likely ask you to whiteboard how you would structure a scalable automation framework from scratch using the Page Object Model while integrating it into a Jenkins or GitHub Actions pipeline. They aren't looking for textbook definitions; they want to hear war stories about how you debugged a broken test suite under a tight sprint deadline.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume doesn't just list tools, but highlights actual frameworks you've built from the ground up using Selenium and Cypress alongside languages like JavaScript or Java. Explicitly mention your experience with CI/CD integration, API testing via Postman or REST Assured, and SQL database validation so the ATS picks up those exact keywords. Frame your bullet points around how your automation efforts reduced regression cycle times and caught critical defects early in the Agile sprint cycle.
