Job Description & Details
If you have spent nearly a decade deep in the trenches of OSIsoft and AVEVA infrastructure, this role lets you own the entire operational data backbone for industrial environments. You will be acting as the go-to expert keeping real-time time-series data flowing cleanly from the plant floor up to the enterprise layer without dropping packets or breaking security boundaries.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days knee-deep in PI Data Archive, configuring complex Asset Framework hierarchies, and building out high-performance PI Vision dashboards that operations teams actually use to run the facility. You will spend a good chunk of time troubleshooting broken interfaces, dealing with network drops between OT and IT, and making sure event frames and analytics are accurately capturing downtime and operational KPIs. It is a mix of heavy architecture planning and hands-on firefighting when a critical data feed goes dark.
The Core Tech Stack
Your bread and butter here needs to be an elite-level command of AVEVA/OSIsoft PI System core tools—specifically PI Data Archive, AF, Event Frames, and PI Vision. Beyond the native PI stack, you need solid exposure to PI Web API, PI Integrator, and industrial protocols like OPC UA and Modbus because data doesn't magically appear in the archive; you have to pull it reliably from PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems. Bonus points if you can drop into Python or PowerShell to automate repetitive administration tasks or bridge the gap into cloud platforms like Azure.
Interview Expectations
Be ready to answer deep troubleshooting scenarios, such as walking through a complex data gap where a primary interface lost connection to a redundant data archive and how you would backfill the missing time-series data without corrupting the snapshot queue. The hiring manager is testing your real-world battle scars, so they want to hear how you handle high-pressure plant outages, manage AF template scaling issues, and secure industrial environments against modern cybersecurity threats without choking data throughput.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to heavily feature the keywords 'PI Data Archive', 'Asset Framework', 'PI Vision', and 'Event Frames' right near the top to survive the automated parsers, but make sure you back them up with actual impact metrics. Instead of just listing tools, describe the scale of the industrial environments you have managed—mention the number of tags, the complexity of your asset hierarchies, and how your PI system integrations directly improved reliability or uptime in Oil & Gas, manufacturing, or utilities.
