SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) Consultant

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-hitting SAP PM role focused on modernizing maintenance operations for complex naval assets like ships and aircraft on an S/4HANA implementation. You will be knee-deep in configuration, blueprinting, and client workshops, translating messy federal requirements into structured maintenance schedules. If you know defense logistics and asset management inside out, this gig lets you drive a massive public sector transformation.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll spend your days running workshops with engineering stakeholders to figure out how they handle corrective, preventive, and condition-based maintenance, then mapping that reality into SAP. Expect to configure functional locations, equipment hierarchies, maintenance notifications, and work orders while keeping a close eye on how PM ties into Materials Management (MM) and Finance (FICO). You won't just write functional specs and toss them over the fence; you'll guide the client through unit testing, data migration, and the inevitable post-go-live fires.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here is SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) within an S/4HANA Asset Management environment, backed by at least eight years of hard-earned consulting scars. You need deep fluency in technical objects, maintenance plans, and cross-module integration with MM and PS. Having defense or heavy industry domain experience isn't just a nice-to-have; it's what keeps you from getting bogged down by military-specific maintenance logistics and nomenclature.

Interview Expectations

Be ready for the hiring manager to ask you to walk through a complex integration scenario where an SAP PM work order triggers a material reservation in MM and impacts a project WBS element in PS, specifically calling out how you handled a circular dependency or cost allocation issue. They want to see that you understand the domino effect of your configuration choices across the entire S/4HANA landscape. Another favorite will be detailing how you've handled master data migration for legacy equipment hierarchies with millions of historical maintenance records without corrupting the target S/4HANA tables.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume screams 'Active Secret Clearance' and 'U.S. Citizen' right at the top, because missing those federal keywords will get your application auto-rejected before a human even glances at it. Highlight your S/4HANA full-cycle implementations rather than just legacy ECC projects, and explicitly mention keywords like 'Functional Locations', 'Maintenance Plans', and 'Cross-module Integration with MM/PS' to easily clear the ATS filters.
