AVEVA PI System Developer (PI AF & PI Vision)

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on, mid-to-senior level contract role for someone who truly understands industrial data infrastructure. If you've spent years wrestling with OSIsoft/AVEVA PI AF asset frameworks and building custom PI Vision displays for plant floors, this 12-month gig will let you flex those exact muscles without getting bogged down in endless corporate bureaucracy.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days knee-deep in PI Asset Framework (AF) template design, standing up OEE and Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) use cases, and pulling operational data through various integration layers. You'll be building custom dashboards in PI Vision, handling administrative tasks, and ensuring that process data flows smoothly from the automation layer all the way up to business applications via SQL and custom .NET integrations.

The Core Tech Stack

You absolutely must know the AVEVA PI System inside and out—specifically PI AF, PI Vision with custom object integration, and data access tools like PI OLEDB, RTQP, and PI ODBC. Strong SQL capabilities are non-negotiable since you'll constantly be querying and restructuring industrial telemetry. Familiarity with the PI SDK, PI AF SDK, Visual Studio .NET, and Angular will give you a massive edge when custom applications need tweaking.

Interview Expectations

The hiring manager is likely going to grill you on your experience structuring complex AF hierarchies and handling templates for multi-site plants, so be ready to talk through a specific time you optimized a bloated database. They'll also want to test your troubleshooting methodology when real-time data stops syncing between the control automation layer and PI Vision.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume doesn't just list "AVEVA PI" as a keyword, but explicitly details your hands-on experience with AF template creation, OEE calculation models, and custom PI Vision display development. Highlight any background in control automation or heavy SQL scripting right near the top to easily clear the automated filters.
