Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting Principal Data Architect role for someone who wants to steer the data modernization ship at an enterprise scale. You will be bridging the gap between high-level executive strategy and deep hands-on technical execution, specifically focusing on hybrid cloud environments and massive data workloads.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days acting as the central technical authority for global data architecture, partnering directly with the VP and C-suite stakeholders. Your core mandate is moving legacy platforms to cloud-native stacks while implementing Data Mesh principles and data-as-a-product capabilities. Expect to spend a lot of time defining enterprise-wide patterns through the Architecture Review Board, untangling complex regulatory compliance like GDPR and ISO 20022, and figuring out how to safely bake AI and streaming analytics into high-availability production workloads without breaking the system.
The Core Tech Stack
You need to bring serious battle scars in multi-cloud ecosystems—specifically AWS, Azure, and GCP—alongside modern lakehouse engines like Databricks and Snowflake. Real-time and batch streaming are non-negotiable here, so deep fluency with Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink, and NiFi is required. They are also looking for forward-thinking architecture patterns, so understanding how to integrate AI-driven platforms and agent-based workflows securely is a major priority.
Interview Expectations
The hiring panel is going to test both your system design chops and your executive presence. They will likely throw a scenario at you involving migrating a petabyte-scale on-prem data warehouse to a multi-cloud lakehouse under strict GDPR constraints, and they will want to hear how you design the migration path with zero downtime. They are looking for your ability to balance pragmatic engineering trade-offs with rigorous security governance. They may also ask you to explain a time you convinced a skeptical C-suite stakeholder to adopt a disruptive architectural paradigm like Data Mesh, evaluating how well you translate complex technical debt into clear business risks and ROI.
Application Advice
Skip the generic resume buzzwords and focus strictly on scale, leadership, and cloud migration impact. Your resume needs to explicitly highlight keywords like 'Data Mesh', 'Databricks', 'Snowflake', 'Kafka', and 'multi-cloud modernization' to clear the automated ATS filters. Make sure you quantify your past architectural wins—mention the scale of the distributed systems you've built, the size of the budgets or engineering teams you've influenced, and concrete regulatory frameworks you have successfully navigated.
