AVEVA PI Developer

Job Description & Details

This is a solid contract gig focused entirely on industrial data infrastructure, specifically building out and managing OSIsoft/AVEVA PI ecosystems for IoT and energy use cases. If you know your way around PI AF templates, PI Vision, and backend data plumbing, this role lets you skip the generic web app grind and build things that actually monitor heavy industry.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your days will center around architecting asset frameworks, spinning up PI Vision displays with custom objects, and making sure all that time-series sensor data flows smoothly into relational databases. You will be dealing heavily with industrial use cases like OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and CBM (Condition-Based Monitoring), which means translating raw SCADA/PLC data into actionable operational metrics that plant managers and engineers rely on daily.

The Core Tech Stack

You need deep, battle-tested experience with the AVEVA PI System, particularly PI AF (Asset Framework) development and PI Vision display building. SQL is non-negotiable here, as you'll be querying and integrating data using PI OLEDB Enterprise, PI ODBC, and RTQP. Knowing your way around the PI SDK, PI AF SDK, and .NET/Angular for custom integrations will give you a massive edge over other applicants.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to drill down into your experience with PI AF element hierarchies and template versioning; be ready to explain how you handle schema changes across hundreds of similar physical assets without breaking downstream dashboards. They will also likely test your SQL integration knowledge by asking how you efficiently extract time-series data using PI OLEDB versus RTQP for high-throughput reporting.

Application Advice

Skip the generic project management fluff on your CV and put AVEVA PI, PI AF, PI Vision, and SQL front and center in your summary. Make sure you explicitly mention acronyms like OEE, CBM, and PI SDK in your bullet points so you easily clear their keyword filters.
