Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on supervisory role focused on keeping complex mechanical and automation infrastructure running smoothly without downtime. You'll be managing both the high-level BAS controls and the boots-on-the-ground trade technicians responsible for critical facility operations. Note that this specific position requires working a 2nd shift schedule from Tuesday to Saturday.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your days will be split between optimizing Building Automation Systems and keeping an eye on heavy utility infrastructure like chillers, boilers, air handlers, and pumps. You will lead, coach, and develop utility trade technicians, ensuring that preventative maintenance schedules are actually followed rather than just tracked on paper. When emergencies happen, you'll step in to help troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, and plumbing issues, while also keeping an eye on energy conservation initiatives to trim operating costs.
The Core Tech Stack
You need deep, practical experience with Building Automation Systems and Building Management Systems (BAS/BMS) to monitor, control, and optimize HVAC loops. A strong foundation in MEP systems and heavy industrial or commercial equipment—chillers, boilers, and AHUs—is mandatory. Having a current Journeyman's or State License in Electrical, HVAC, or Plumbing isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a hard requirement to validate your technical authority over the trade crews you'll be supervising.
Interview Expectations
The hiring manager will likely test your crisis management by asking how you handle a major equipment failure on the floor during off-hours while managing a skeleton crew. They want to hear a structured approach to triage, safety protocols, and clear communication with stakeholders like Facilities and Ride & Show teams. Expect technical deep-dives into your BAS troubleshooting methodology, specifically how you isolate sensor failures versus mechanical actuator issues.
Application Advice
To make your resume stick with the ATS, ensure your experience clearly highlights both sides of this role: your technical chops in HVAC/BAS and your actual leadership timeline managing skilled trade workers. Explicitly list your current licenses, certifications (like EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling if you have it), and any experience you have working large-scale campuses, resorts, or industrial environments.
