Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on Database Analyst contract role centered around keeping critical Roadside Toll Systems running smoothly. If you enjoy a mix of deep data analysis, database migrations, and performance tuning within the transportation sector, this 12+ month gig offers a great opportunity to own key performance indicators and infrastructure support.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will involve juggling multiple technical priorities, from generating crucial reports and setting up new alerts to executing database migrations and coordinating vendor build deployments. You will actively collaborate with the monitoring operation center and other team members to oversee third-party patching, handle hardware replacements, and maintain SQL distributors. Expect to roll up your sleeves for roadside replication support, dive deep into data analysis, and build out Power BI reports that impact daily operations across various computing environments.
The Core Tech Stack
To succeed here, you need a strong command of Oracle Procedural Language (PL-SQL) and Microsoft SQL (Transact-SQL) alongside at least 5 years of solid DBA and SQL procedural coding experience. The team specifically requires candidates who understand transportation or tolling systems, meaning you'll need to hit the ground running with industry-specific data architectures, schemas, and performance bottlenecks without a steep onboarding ramp.
Interview Expectations
Expect the technical interviewers to test your advanced querying and optimization skills under pressure. They will likely ask you to explain a time you troubleshot a complex replication or distribution lag in a high-transaction environment, watching closely to see if you can methodically isolate bottlenecks in both Oracle and SQL Server. They are secretly testing your architectural intuition and want to know that you can diagnose schema inefficiencies and data credibility issues independently without needing your hand held.
Application Advice
To make your resume stick for this role, ensure your experience with PL-SQL and T-SQL is front and center, but don't stop there. You must explicitly highlight any past projects involving tolling, transportation, or roadside systems to pass the initial screening. Weave in keywords like database migrations, Power BI, SQL distributor maintenance, and KPI metric generation naturally into your work history to show the hiring manager you have already tackled the exact operational challenges they face daily.
