Job Description & Details

This 12-month hybrid contract in Dallas is essentially a heavy-duty infrastructure engineering gig managing both traditional Windows environments and modern hyperconverged infrastructure. It's built for someone who doesn't just push buttons in a GUI, but actually understands the under-the-hood mechanics of virtualization, clustering, and automation. If you like wearing multiple hats and dealing with everything from Active Directory forest recovery to Nutanix hardware racking, this is a solid long-term play with expected extensions.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll spend your days wrangling a complex, heterogeneous mix of VMware and Nutanix environments, keeping the lights on for critical control systems. Your time will be split between troubleshooting elusive performance bottlenecks in vSphere and Nutanix Prism, spinning up automation workflows via vRA and vRO, and handling day-to-day Active Directory maintenance. Eventually, you'll rotate into an on-call schedule and occasionally travel around the DFW metroplex for physical data center work, which means racking servers and pulling cables won't be beneath you.

The Core Tech Stack

You need absolute fluency in Windows Server ecosystems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and group policy management, paired with deep hypervisor chops across VMware vSphere and Nutanix Prism Central. Automation is non-negotiable here, so your PowerShell scripting needs to be sharp enough to deliver measurable operational efficiencies rather than just basic scripts. Experience with Horizon View, ADFS, MS clusters, and load balancing will round out the toolkit required to keep this global environment stable.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to throw a scenario at you regarding Active Directory multi-site replication failures or a split-brain DC scenario, and they'll want to hear your exact step-by-step recovery process without hesitation. They are secretly testing whether you panic under pressure or if you actually know how to use NTDSutil and authoritative restores. You'll also likely be grilled on how you isolate a performance bottleneck in a shared Nutanix or VMware storage tier, so be ready to talk through past war stories involving latency spikes and noisy neighbors.

Application Advice

Skip the generic IT boilerplate and make sure your resume screams infrastructure automation and enterprise troubleshooting. Explicitly list out keywords like 'Nutanix Prism Central', 'vRealize Automation', 'Active Directory recovery', and 'PowerShell scripting' because the automated screen is heavily weighted toward these exact terms. Since they are strictly demanding local candidates in the Dallas area, make sure your Dallas address or a clear statement of local residency is front and center so you don't get auto-rejected by a recruiter.
