Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on GIS Specialist role where you will be the backbone of the organization's mapping infrastructure, keeping ArcGIS Enterprise and Online running smoothly while building tools people actually use. It's a great fit if you enjoy a mix of deep administrative work, spatial analysis, and front-end app development rather than just staring at shapefiles all day. You'll need to be based near the Triangle region even though the work is remote, so expect occasional local touchpoints.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend your days juggling ArcGIS platform administration, publishing web services, and spinning up clean, intuitive dashboards using Experience Builder. Much of your time will go toward data management, fixing broken web maps, and helping non-technical staff figure out why their Survey123 forms aren't syncing correctly in the field. You'll also take on the crucial responsibility of auditing web applications for WCAG accessibility compliance, ensuring everyone can actually use what you build.

The Core Tech Stack

You absolutely must know your way around ArcGIS Pro and Enterprise/Online administration—managing users, permissions, and publishing hosted services is non-negotiable here. Experience Builder, Survey123, and Field Maps are your daily drivers for field-to-office workflows. On top of the Esri ecosystem, having solid Python or SQL chops for automation and data processing will save you hours of manual clicking and keep your databases clean.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to ask you to troubleshoot a scenario where a hosted feature service is throwing a CORS error or failing to draw in an Experience Builder app, testing your real-world debugging instincts. They will also likely drill into your Python automation experience, asking you to explain how you've previously batched data processing or managed metadata updates at scale. They want to see that you can think critically and solve problems independently without needing a manual.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume explicitly highlights your experience with ArcGIS Enterprise administration and web app development, as these are the filters the ATS will look for first. Don't just list software names; briefly mention specific tools you've deployed using Experience Builder or Survey123 and drop keywords like WCAG accessibility, Python scripting, and feature service publishing right near the top of your experience section.
