Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting Boomi Integration Architect role based out of Raleigh, NC, designed for someone who wants to own the middleware strategy rather than just write components. You'll be stepping into an enterprise environment dealing with heavy acquisitions, legacy migrations, and governance, meaning your architectural choices will directly dictate how smoothly the company scales.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will be a mix of high-level design and hands-on firefighting. You'll spend significant time untangling legacy SSIS packages, building acquisition integration pipelines, and setting up guardrails for citizen developers who want to plug into the ecosystem without breaking production. You won't just be drawing diagrams; you will be rolling up your sleeves to build the core reusable frameworks, shared subprocesses, and error-handling patterns that the rest of the team will rely on.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute mastery over Dell Boomi, period. Beyond Boomi atoms and molecules, the client relies heavily on REST/SOAP APIs, OAuth 2.0, and robust event-driven architectures using RabbitMQ or Boomi Event Streams. Expect to write complex SQL Server or Oracle queries and stored procedures daily, as data wrangling and query tuning are critical when migrating legacy ETL jobs and dealing with messy acquisition datasets.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on error handling and guaranteed delivery patterns in distributed systems; they'll likely ask you to whiteboard how you'd design a retry and dead-letter queue mechanism for a failing third-party API call. They want to see that you understand not just how to make a successful integration, but how it gracefully degrades and recovers when external services go down. They will also test your governance mindset by asking how you enable citizen developers without losing control of enterprise data standards.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume screams Boomi architecture, not just Boomi development. Highlight your experience building reusable frameworks, error-handling patterns, and managing end-to-end migrations from legacy tools like SSIS. Drop exact keywords from the listing—such as 'Boomi Event Streams', 'RabbitMQ', 'OAuth 2.0', and 'citizen development'—directly into your experience bullets to ensure you clear the automated filters and land on the engineering manager's desk.
