Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty data migration gig focused on dragging legacy insurance platforms out of the Mainframe era and into Duck Creek. If you enjoy untangling ancient COBOL copybooks, mapping complex personal lines data, and keeping millions of dollars in policy and claims records from breaking, this role will keep you very busy.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days knee-deep in source-to-target mapping (STTM) documents, figuring out how decades-old automotive and home insurance data fits into modern Duck Creek policy and billing models. You will be profiling messy historical data, defining business transformation rules, and building reconciliation scripts to make sure written premiums, loss histories, and deductibles line up down to the penny. It is a balancing act of translating technical migration bottlenecks into plain English for leadership while guiding a team of analysts through the weeds.
The Core Tech Stack
To survive this project, you need advanced SQL skills for writing complex joins, unions, and validation scripts that can handle millions of rows. Familiarity with legacy environments like Mainframe, DB2, or PostgreSQL is non-negotiable because you have to know how to read the past before you can map the future. Finally, hands-on experience migrating data into Duck Creek modules is what will actually get you across the finish line here, supported by any cloud staging knowledge you bring from Azure or AWS.
Interview Expectations
The hiring manager is going to test your deep domain knowledge in personal lines insurance. They will likely ask you to explain how you handle discrepancies in complex data migrations where historical policy coverages and loss histories don't cleanly map to the target system. They want to see that you can build automated reconciliation frameworks without halting underwriting operations. Another favorite line of questioning will revolve around your technical leadership—expect them to drill down on how you translate obscure data migration risks into clear impact statements for non-technical stakeholders.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to scream insurance domain expertise right at the top. Ditch the generic analyst buzzwords and highlight concrete numbers regarding the size of the datasets you have migrated and the exact platforms involved, specifically mentioning Mainframe and Duck Creek if you have touched them. Make sure keywords like source-to-target mapping, data profiling, and reconciliation frameworks are clearly visible so you easily glide past the ATS and land right on the hiring manager's desk.
