Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty infrastructure and migration gig where you aren't just sitting behind a screen writing playbooks—you are actively steering large-scale enterprise storage overhauls. You'll be dealing directly with around 200 application teams, meaning your communication skills need to be just as sharp as your terminal skills. If you like high-visibility projects in a massive corporate environment without getting bogged down by government red tape, this one's worth looking at.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend a solid chunk of your day acting as the technical glue between storage engineering and application deployment. You will be quarterbacking NFS storage migrations for EPS Stabilization, which means coordinating migration paths, arguing technical trade-offs with app teams, and hitting strict deadlines. When you aren't herding cats across 200 app groups, you'll be knee-deep in managing RHEL servers, spinning up VMware vSphere clusters, and making sure security patches don't break production. There's also the occasional physical datacenter lift and 24x7 on-call rotation to keep you honest.
The Core Tech Stack
You'll need deep, battle-tested expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (versions 6 through 9) and Oracle Linux. This isn't a junior setup; you need to understand storage administration inside and out—specifically ZFS, LVM, or Veritas, paired with Red Hat PCS clustering. Automation is non-negotiable here, so your Ansible playbook game needs to be tight for build and patch automation. If you don't know how to abstract repetitive infrastructure tasks into clean, reusable Ansible roles, you're going to have a rough time keeping up with the volume.
Interview Expectations
They're going to test your mettle on handling complex clustering split-brain scenarios and how you troubleshoot quorum loss in RHEL PCS clusters under pressure. The interviewer wants to see if you actually understand the underlying fencing mechanisms or if you just memorize error codes. Expect a deep dive into storage migration strategies where they'll present a scenario involving legacy NFS mounts and ask you to architect a zero-downtime cutover while keeping 200 opinionated developers happy.
Application Advice
Skip the generic system admin resume bullet points and focus heavily on large-scale migrations, enterprise environments (specifically Fortune 500 finance), and automation wins. Make sure keywords like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, RHEL, Ansible playbooks, VMware vSphere, NFS migrations, and ZFS/LVM are explicitly mentioned because the ATS is definitely scanning for them. Highlight your stakeholder management experience—they want to see proof that you can talk tech to engineers and translate it into plain English for non-technical teams.
