Senior Fixed Asset Accountant

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on Senior Fixed Asset Accountant role focused on the complete lifecycle of fixed assets and capital expenditures. If you enjoy diving deep into general ledger reconciliations, tracking construction work-in-progress, and ensuring tight SOX compliance without the chaos of a volatile startup, this gig provides a stable environment to showcase your accounting chops.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around managing capitalization, depreciation schedules, asset transfers, and disposals while keeping the fixed asset register spotless. You will spend a good chunk of your time monitoring CAPEX and Construction Work-in-Progress (CWIP), collaborating with cross-functional project teams, and preparing monthly variance analysis and financial KPIs. When audit season rolls around, you will lead the charge on physical asset verifications and resolve any discrepancies between the ledger and the floor.

The Core Tech Stack

You need to be completely fluent in US GAAP and IFRS standards, but more importantly, you must have hands-on experience navigating an enterprise ERP system like SAP. Advanced Excel is non-negotiable here; you'll be leaning heavily on PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and INDEX/MATCH to slice through heavy volumes of financial data and pull together complex balance sheet reconciliations.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to test your technical depth with a scenario on capitalizing versus expensing ambiguous project costs under US GAAP, specifically dealing with CWIP thresholds. They want to see that you can exercise sound judgment when engineering projects blur the line between maintenance and capital improvement. Another likely hurdle will be walking through a complex balance sheet reconciliation issue you uncovered in a past role and how you navigated SOX controls to correct it without blowing your month-end close timeline.

Application Advice

Skip the generic accounting buzzwords and tailor your resume to highlight your direct experience with SAP and large-scale fixed asset lifecycles. Make sure terms like "CWIP", "SOX controls", "depreciation schedules", and "balance sheet reconciliations" are prominently featured in your bullet points to easily clear the ATS automated screening filters.
