Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-hitting infrastructure project management gig based in Chicago that requires you to wrangle complex technical initiatives across large, matrixed organizations. If you thrive on managing strict budgets, aggressive timelines, and cross-functional teams dealing with servers, storage, and networking, this role will test your organizational mettle.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll be spending your days driving large-scale infrastructure rollouts, managing stakeholder expectations, and untangling cross-team dependencies. Expect to build detailed project plans, establish strict governance, and constantly track scope and budget. When projects inevitably hit roadblocks—whether it's a resource bottleneck or a critical risk—you'll be the one stepping in to build health-restoration plans and push the team across the finish line.

The Core Tech Stack

You won't be writing code here, but you need deep fluency in the tools that keep enterprise IT running. They are looking for heavy experience with project management platforms like Clarity, ServiceNow, Jira, and Azure DevOps, paired with foundational working knowledge of servers, storage, networks, databases, and middleware. Having a PMP or PMI-ACP certification is non-negotiable, and prior experience in regulated environments like financial services will give you a major leg up.

Interview Expectations

The hiring manager is going to probe hard on how you handle failure and ambiguity. Expect them to ask you to describe a time when a critical infrastructure project went off the rails due to scope creep or missed dependencies, and exactly how you salvaged it. They aren't looking for a textbook answer; they want to see your real-world crisis management style, how you escalated issues to leadership, and how you managed anxious stakeholders without losing your cool.

Application Advice

To get past the automated screen, ensure your resume explicitly features your years of experience managing infrastructure projects alongside keywords like project governance, risk management, budget tracking, and matrixed organizations. Make sure your PMP or PMI-ACP certification is front and center, and explicitly list the PPM tools you've used, such as ServiceNow, Jira, or Clarity, to match their exact requirements.
