Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty transport engineering gig focused on scaling US domestic network builds across ULH and OTN Mesh networks. You will be knee-deep in capacity planning, forecasting, and infrastructure augments for massive telecom pipelines, keeping customer demands matched with physical reality. If you enjoy wrangling complex systems and keeping large-scale transport networks healthy, this role is right up your alley.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will revolve around reviewing market-level plans and customer capacity requirements to build and action Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs). You'll spend plenty of time performing detailed equipment engineering, drafting Bills of Materials, and mapping out cable requirements. You'll also interface with real estate and central office teams to make sure power, space, and cooling can handle the growth, while keeping internal databases like ICON and Nautilus meticulously updated.
The Core Tech Stack
You need a deep, logical mastery of SONET and Long-Distance transport systems, paired with hands-on experience designing Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) setups. Familiarity with inventory platforms like ICON, CCP, Nautilus, and CANVAS is a massive plus since you'll constantly be pulling data from multiple sources to forecast network expansion. Visio will also be your best friend for drawing out intricate system diagrams.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to test your deep understanding of network dependencies like space, power, fiber, and diversity. They will likely present a scenario where a high-priority fiber outage occurs and ask how you would coordinate ad-hoc restoration while managing multi-year capacity forecasts. They want to see that you can think critically on your feet and calmly balance competing operational demands.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume highlights your hands-on background with SONET, DWDM, and detailed equipment engineering rather than just high-level architecture. Weave in keywords from the job description like 'Capacity Creation Requests', 'DWDM transport systems', and specific inventory databases like 'ICON' or 'Nautilus' to easily sail through the initial ATS screening.
