Job Description & Details
This is a specialized ServiceNow ATF Developer role embedded within a heavily regulated banking environment, focusing heavily on rigorous platform reliability and automated regression testing. You will be building automated guardrails for critical ITSM, CSDM, and CMDB workflows to ensure that frequent platform upgrades and sprint deployments don't break production compliance. If you enjoy building clean test architecture and dealing with enterprise governance rather than just writing ad-hoc scripts, this one fits the bill.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will revolve around designing, building, and maintaining robust automated test suites using the ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF). You'll spend a lot of time creating reusable test steps, handling data setup strategies to combat test flakiness, and validating complex ITIL-aligned processes like Change Enablement workflows, SLA triggers, and custom catalog items. You will also partner closely with risk and compliance teams to automate evidence collection and establish strict gating criteria for promotions across environments.
The Core Tech Stack
To succeed here, you need a strong foundation in ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF), core ITSM modules (Incident, Problem, Change, Request), and CMDB/CSDM structures. Beyond testing tools, you must understand core ServiceNow configuration concepts like Business Rules, Client Scripts, ACLs, and Flows/Workflows because your ATF scripts will constantly interact with them. Experience working within strict SDLC and release management practices—ideally within banking or financial services—is non-negotiable for handling compliance and auditability requirements.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to ask you how you handle ATF test flakiness caused by environment or test-data drift, as they will want to see your strategy for building resilient data fixtures. They are secretly looking for someone who understands the nuances of test data isolation rather than just recording linear click-paths. You will also likely be grilled on how you isolate genuine product defects from environmental issues or fragile test scripts during a failed automated run.
Application Advice
When updating your resume, make sure to explicitly highlight your hands-on experience with ServiceNow ATF, test suite modularity, and ITIL process automation. Don't just list generic QA testing skills; weave in keywords like automated regression packs, platform family upgrades, data fixtures, and CI/CD or release pipeline integration. Tailoring your resume to reflect strict compliance environments and banking SDLC methodologies will immediately signal to the ATS and the hiring team that you are ready for this enterprise-grade challenge.
