Venafi Engineer

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a specialized infrastructure and security role focused entirely on certificate lifecycle management using the Venafi Trust Protection Platform. If you enjoy untangling complex PKI environments and preventing catastrophic outages caused by expired certificates, this gig gives you direct ownership over enterprise-scale machine identities.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend your days administering Venafi TPP, running certificate discovery across on-prem and cloud environments, and untangling integration headaches with load balancers, Active Directory, and various CAs. Expect to collaborate heavily with app teams who accidentally broke their TLS bindings, troubleshoot sudden revocation failures, and push hard toward automating provisioning so you aren't doing manual renewals until the end of time.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here is the Venafi Trust Protection Platform (or TLS Protect) paired with a deep, practical understanding of PKI, digital certificates, and TLS/SSL workflows. You need to know your way around enterprise CAs like Microsoft AD CS, understand how web servers like IIS, Apache, and NGINX handle their cert stores, and possess enough PowerShell, Python, or REST API chops to automate away the tedious operational overhead.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test your real-world incident response by asking how you would handle a sudden, widespread outage caused by an expired wildcard certificate tied to a legacy load balancer. They aren't just looking for technical steps; they want to see how you communicate panic-free under pressure and coordinate across cross-functional infrastructure teams. You'll likely also be grilled on advanced Venafi concepts like custom workflow configurations, zone policies, and API-driven provisioning strategies.

Application Advice

Skip the generic system admin boilerplate and make sure your resume explicitly highlights your hands-on Venafi TPP administration and PKI integration experience front and center. Explicitly drop keywords like certificate discovery, AD CS, REST APIs, and automation scripts into your work history to easily clear the ATS, and emphasize any experience you have working with cloud environments or F5 load balancers.
