Technical Training & Curriculum Development Specialist

PTR Global

Job Description & Details

If you know your way around instructional design and want to apply it to critical infrastructure, this 6-month contract with PTR Global puts you right in the middle of the electric utility sector. You will be building out training pipelines for Distribution Operators and Transmission Grid Controllers, meaning your work directly impacts real-world grid reliability and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will involve translating complex electrical engineering and grid operation concepts into digestible, standardized training modules. You will build out lesson plans, on-the-job facilitation guides, and performance-tracking metrics while collaborating heavily with subject matter experts who know the grid inside and out. Expect to spend a good chunk of your time setting up competency matrices and tracking systems that satisfy strict NERC regulatory frameworks, plus a bit of travel between Dallas, Irving, and Fort Worth.

The Core Tech Stack

Instructional Systems Design (ISD) and adult learning methodologies are non-negotiable here, alongside tools like Articulate 360 for authoring content and standard Learning Management Systems (LMS) for tracking trainee progress. You also need a solid grasp of competency-based training frameworks and Microsoft Office for documentation. While you don't need to be a power engineer, having the technical aptitude to quickly pick up electric utility concepts, NERC compliance standards, and grid operations is what will separate a good hire from a great one.

Interview Expectations

When you talk with the hiring team, expect them to test your methodology by asking how you translate dense, highly technical standard operating procedures into an engaging, measurable curriculum for adult learners. They want to see that you can herd cats—specifically, busy operational subject matter experts—to extract the information you need without missing compliance deadlines. Be ready to give a concrete example of how you designed a competency matrix and tracked trainee progression in a heavily regulated industry.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS, make sure your resume explicitly calls out terms like Instructional Systems Design, NERC compliance, Articulate 360, LMS administration, and competency-based training. Don't just list what courses you built; highlight the metrics you moved and how you handled regulatory documentation. Frame your experience around how you bridge the gap between raw technical data and clear, operational learning outcomes.
