Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on, contract-to-hire category strategist role where you'll be running heavy-duty sourcing initiatives and driving vendor negotiations from the ground up. If you enjoy digging into market data, building RFPs, and directly influencing the bottom line through smart supply chain decisions, this gig gives you plenty of autonomy to make an immediate operational impact.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day involves owning complex sourcing events, wrangling cross-functional stakeholders, and managing RFPs through the company's procure-to-pay system. You'll spend a good amount of time analyzing supplier proposals, hashing out contract terms and SLAs with legal partners, and identifying real expense reduction opportunities without sacrificing quality. Expect to act as the primary bridge between business units and vendors, resolving disputes and keeping projects moving under tight deadlines.
The Core Tech Stack
While you won't be writing code, you need to be deeply fluent in modern procure-to-pay platforms, enterprise sourcing systems, and contract management software. Advanced Microsoft Excel is non-negotiable here; you will be slicing market data, building cost-benefit models, and analyzing supplier responses constantly. Familiarity with financial services or highly regulated industry compliance workflows is also a massive plus.
Interview Expectations
Be ready for behavioral and situational questions around stakeholder management, particularly how you handle internal pushback when a preferred vendor doesn't meet compliance or pricing standards. The hiring manager wants to see how you build cross-functional consensus through influence rather than just quoting policy, so be prepared to walk through a specific negotiation where you turned a difficult supplier relationship around.
Application Advice
Skip the generic corporate resume speak and put your numbers front and center. Highlight the actual scale of the RFPs you've managed, the total dollar value of contracts you've negotiated, and measurable cost-reduction percentages you've achieved. Make sure keywords like 'strategic sourcing', 'procure-to-pay', 'contract negotiations', and 'supplier relationship management' are naturally woven into your employment history so you easily clear the ATS filters.
