Job Description & Details
This gig is a rare hybrid of product ownership and hands-on technical execution at a major financial institution. You aren't just writing tickets or just building dashboards—you're doing both while migrating legacy reporting into a modern cloud ecosystem.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your typical week splits between wrangling stakeholders and actually writing code. You will spend half your time talking to Risk leadership, shaping the product roadmap, and managing the Jira backlog, and the other half deep in Power BI, SQL, and Python building the actual reporting assets. The team is right in the middle of a massive data modernization effort, meaning you'll be tearing down manual processes and replacing them with robust, cloud-based self-service analytics that senior executives will directly rely on.
The Core Tech Stack
Power BI makes up 40% of the workload, so your data modeling and DAX skills need to be sharp enough to handle heavy enterprise datasets without lagging. SQL (25%) and Python (20%) are your bread and butter for data manipulation and pipeline work, while Azure tools like Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, and Unity Catalog round out the remaining 15%. Because this is a banking environment, clean data governance and efficient pipeline design aren't optional—they are expected from day one.
Interview Expectations
Expect the interviewers to probe heavily into how you balance the conflicting demands of being both the builder and the product owner. You will likely be asked how you handle a senior stakeholder demanding a rushed dashboard update while you are in the middle of a complex data architecture refactor. They want to hear that you can push back with data-backed reasoning, prioritize the backlog efficiently, and still deliver clean, performant code without cutting corners.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to immediately prove you have worn both hats in an enterprise or banking environment. Don't just list Power BI and SQL as skills; explicitly highlight projects where you owned the roadmap and built the end-to-end dashboards yourself. Make sure keywords like 'Power BI', 'DAX', 'Python', 'SQL', and 'Azure Data Factory' are front and center so you clear the initial ATS screening easily.
