Job Description & Details
This role sits right at the intersection of design, manufacturing, and client management within the commercial HVAC space. You are going to own projects from the initial job release all the way to final completion, meaning you need to wear multiple hats without getting overwhelmed by the operational friction.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect your days to be split between deep design work and keeping the physical shop floor moving. You'll be generating shop drawings, putting together assembly instructions, and purchasing components while wrangling vendors to ensure materials arrive on time. When production hits a snag, you are the go-to person providing hands-on support, creating engineering solutions for sheet metal optimization, and occasionally stepping out onto the floor to help with light assembly or instructional support.
The Core Tech Stack
SolidWorks and 2D CAD are non-negotiable here since you'll be spending a considerable amount of time designing and creating manufacturing packages. Beyond the software, your ability to navigate Microsoft applications for tracking and communication is critical. The real edge will come if you understand sheet metal design optimization and have some exposure to Lean Six Sigma principles to drive their continuous improvement initiatives.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to test your practical problem-solving abilities by asking you to walk through a time you handled a major discrepancy between a client's design and actual shop floor manufacturing constraints. They want to hear how you communicate, pivot under pressure, and take ownership from start to finish. They will likely also drill down into your SolidWorks workflow, specifically how you approach sheet metal design for manufacturability.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume doesn't just list CAD software, but explicitly highlights end-to-end project ownership and vendor management in a manufacturing or HVAC setting. Weave keywords like 'SolidWorks', 'sheet metal design optimization', 'manufacturing packages', and 'vendor management' naturally into your bullet points so you easily clear the ATS filters. Emphasize any continuous improvement or Lean experiences you have, as those are clear differentiators for this team.
