Database Administrator II

Genesis10

Job Description & Details

This is a direct-hire Database Administrator II role supporting mission-critical campus administration systems at a university in Pittsburgh via Genesis10. You will be hands-on with Oracle DBA tasks and ERP infrastructure, keeping essential higher-ed operations stable and performant.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around maintaining production, test, and development databases, dealing with backup and recovery, tuning queries, and handling patch cycles for enterprise applications like Banner and Apache Tomcat. You will also coordinate closely with project management offices and application teams to architect high-availability setups, map out disaster recovery paths, and troubleshoot tricky integration bottlenecks.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a solid foundation in Oracle Database Administration, advanced SQL, and advanced Shell Scripting to survive here. Experience with Apache Tomcat and enterprise ERP ecosystems like Banner is non-negotiable since you'll be managing middleware integrations, data warehouses, and ETL pipelines daily.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to present a complex scenario involving a sudden performance degradation in a production ERP environment during peak campus registration, asking you to walk through your exact triage and troubleshooting steps. They are testing your composure and analytical depth under pressure. You will also likely be grilled on your disaster recovery planning and how you approach database tuning when dealing with heavily locked tables and poorly indexed queries.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume explicitly highlights your hands-on experience with Oracle DBA, complex SQL optimization, and Shell Scripting automation. Drop in keywords like 'Disaster Recovery', 'Apache Tomcat', 'Banner Administration', and 'ETL processes' naturally into your work history so you easily pass the ATS and catch the eye of the technical hiring manager.
