Data Center Field Operations Technician

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a massive infrastructure push requiring about 200 boots-on-the-ground techs to handle heavy physical builds and Layer 1 troubleshooting in a hyperscale environment. If you like working with your hands, terminating high-density fiber, and keeping enterprise-grade iron running, this role keeps you knee-deep in hardware without getting bogged down in software architecture.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your days will be spent pulling cables, splicing fiber, and racking servers in a fast-paced data center. You'll work heavily with Cat6A, MPO/MTP connectors, and run diagnostics using OTDRs and power meters to ensure zero packet loss before things go live. Expect to deal with break/fix tickets, hardware swaps on switches and routers, and rigorous asset tracking while keeping cable management pristine.

The Core Tech Stack

Absolute must-haves here are deep, hands-on fiber skills—specifically splicing, terminating, and testing OS2, OM4, and MPO cabling. You need to be completely fluent with optical power meters, VFLs, and OTDR gear. Familiarity with enterprise switches, transceivers, and standard datacenter ticketing workflows will keep you from drowning in the day-to-day tickets.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to grill you on your fiber troubleshooting methodology, such as how you isolate a high-loss event using an OTDR trace. They want to see that you understand clean-room discipline, proper connector care, and how to methodically test Layer 1 links under pressure without guessing.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume screams physical infrastructure. Highlight terms like fiber splicing, OTDR, Cat6A, MPO/MTP, and rack-and-stack prominently to get past the automated filters. Emphasize any past hyperscale experience and your flexibility with shift rotations, as availability is a massive deciding factor for this role.
