Container Engineer

Genesis10

Job Description & Details

This 12-month contract places you inside a major financial institution via Genesis10, helping migrate critical enterprise applications over to RedHat OpenShift. If you enjoy untangling legacy infrastructure and turning it into streamlined containerized workloads, this gig gives you a chance to make a massive structural impact.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days acting as the bridge between dev teams, enterprise architecture, and the core platform group. You will look at existing monolithic or VM-based applications, figure out what it takes to containerize them, and shepherd them through the onboarding process onto OpenShift. It is a mix of high-level design coordination and hands-on operational troubleshooting when a deployment inevitably hits a wall.

The Core Tech Stack

RedHat OpenShift is the absolute centerpiece here, so you need to know it inside and out—not just clicking around a UI, but managing the underlying cluster configurations and image deployments. Deep Linux OS knowledge is non-negotiable since you'll be troubleshooting kernel parameters and resource constraints. Coupled with a solid background in microservices and container image building, you must be comfortable defending your design choices to skeptical app developers.

Interview Expectations

Be ready to walk through a time you troubleshot a container deployment that kept failing in a pre-production cluster, as the hiring manager wants to see how you systematically isolate network, storage, and resource bottlenecks in OpenShift. They will also likely drill you on microservices migration strategies, specifically asking how you handle persistent storage and configuration management when moving stateful apps into containers.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to heavily feature the words OpenShift, container migration, and Linux kernel configurations right at the top so it easily clears the ATS parser. Don't just list tools; highlight specific metrics around applications you've successfully containerized and how you collaborated with cross-functional dev teams to get them across the finish line.
