Employee Relations Consultant - Human Resources

Systems Engineering Services

Job Description & Details

This is a serious HR role focused squarely on high-stakes employee relations, workplace investigations, and risk mitigation. If you are tired of generalist fluff and want to spend your days acting as a trusted advisor to leaders on complex terminations, conduct issues, and employment law, this hybrid gig in Denver is worth a look.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend a massive chunk of your time conducting thorough, objective workplace investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, and policy violations. Beyond putting out fires, you will coach managers through thorny performance management issues, write up corrective actions, and ensure the company stays compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws. You'll be balancing the human element of the employee experience with hard-nosed risk assessment, often partnering closely with Legal on sensitive administrative charges.

The Core Tech Stack

While you won't be writing code, you need a rock-solid command of employment regulations and case-management technology. The absolute baseline here is 5+ years of hands-on HR experience specifically dealing with complex employee relations, backed by deep knowledge of employment law and the ability to navigate difficult conversations with senior leaders without blinking. If you hold a PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP, you're already speaking their language.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test your judgment with situational scenarios, likely asking you to walk through how you would handle a high-level executive accused of misconduct or a tricky involuntary termination. They are secretly looking for your ability to remain strictly objective, protect the organization from legal exposure, and simultaneously demonstrate empathy without compromising on compliance. They'll also probe your investigation methodology to see how you document facts and handle pushback from defensive managers.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to scream ER expertise rather than general HR administration. Make sure you explicitly highlight your experience running workplace investigations, drafting corrective actions, and advising leadership on terminations. Weave in keywords from the job description like "workplace investigations," "compliance," "performance management," and "risk mitigation" to make sure you clear the ATS, and explicitly state your multi-state or complex organization experience if you have it.
