Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty technical product owner role sitting right at the intersection of complex banking systems and agile engineering teams. If you hate writing specs that nobody reads and prefer diving deep into APIs, data feeds, and payment systems, this 12-month gig will keep you busy. You will own the backlog and act as the ultimate translator between business stakeholders who want results yesterday and dev teams who need precise requirements.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days knee-deep in user stories, backlog grooming sessions, and stakeholder alignment meetings. You'll be untangling dependencies across multiple technology squads, defining strict acceptance criteria, and prioritizing features based on real business value in the banking and payments space. When data integrations break or system enhancements stall, you're the one stepping in to clear the path and keep the delivery train moving forward without sacrificing quality.
The Core Tech Stack
Because this is a technical PO role, you can't just wave your hands and talk about agile; you need to speak the language of the developers. You must know your way around APIs, cloud infrastructure, relational databases with Oracle being a major plus, and event-driven architectures like Kafka. The engineering team will expect you to understand data feeds and technical constraints well enough to write user stories that don't require total rewrites during sprint planning.
Interview Expectations
Be ready for the hiring manager to grill you on a time you had to push back against a high-priority business stakeholder whose request would have broken technical dependencies or derailed the sprint. They want to see how you balance strict banking domain requirements with pragmatic agile delivery. They will also likely test your technical depth by asking how you document API-driven integrations and manage edge cases in payment processing workflows, so have a concrete example ready from a past financial project.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to scream banking domain expertise and hardcore agile backlog management right from the top. Do not just list generic product owner duties; explicitly highlight your experience with payment systems, Kafka, APIs, and Oracle databases to clear the automated ATS filters. Make sure your bullet points emphasize how you bridged the gap between business stakeholders and technical engineering teams to deliver enterprise-grade financial software on time.
